Eco School

The Willows school is committed to educating its pupils about caring for and respecting the environment and developing responsible citizens who are able to make valuable decisions.

Why do we have Eco Warriors?

Being an Eco Warrior is an ideal opportunity for our pupils to get more involved in the way our school is run and help us to be more environmentally friendly. It provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made. Eco Warriors take on the responsibility of expressing their own views, but also the views of their peers as well as passing on information from eco meetings.

What do our Eco Warriors do?

Our Eco Warriors help to care for our school environment: they help others to follow our eco-code, monitor our energy use in class and encourage  teachers and children to recycle. Our current Eco Warriors will take part in discussions and feedback any relevant information to their class. At times they are requested to ask their class for ideas or take class votes relating to discussions by the Eco Committee. Members will meet regularly to discuss their ideas.

If you have any suggestions, ideas or would like to help us GET GREENER in any way, then why not pop into school and let us know.

As part of our responsibility to the environment and as an Eco-School we aim:

  • To develop an awareness of environmental issues.

  • To promote environmental issues and raise awareness among the wider school community.

  • To become more sustainable in the school environment and reduce the environmental impact of the whole school.

  • To link environmental issues in with the curriculum.

The Willows Academy Trust is celebrating being awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag award, the highest award available to schools.  After previously achieving Bronze and Silver awards – and following a lot of hard work and commitment – the School passed a thorough an environmental review by the eco the warriors behind the scheme with flying colours.  This has enabled the Willows to gain the Green Flag status.

“Congratulations on achieving you First Green Flag Eco Warriors”

Our Eco Warriors!

Our Eco-School

The whole school works together to ensure that the Eco-School principals are embedded in the daily life of the school and indeed in the whole school community. The staff ensure that work on all eco-schools topics is weaved creatively through the curriculum and the children are responsible for electing an Eco-Warrior in their classroom. The Eco-Warriors are then encouraged to act as an eco-role model to the rest of the school, to encourage recycling, reduce litter in the playground, eat healthily and conserve energy. For our future progression we aim to focus on our sustainability, wider community and playground area.
