Computing

Computing at The Willows

Exploring, creating and solving problems safely with technology

At The Willows, computing gives pupils the knowledge, confidence and creativity to take an active part in a rapidly changing digital world.

Computer Science

Understanding how computers work and learning to programme.

Digital Creativity

Using technology purposefully to communicate and share ideas.

Online Safety

Making responsible, respectful and safe choices online.

Our Computing Curriculum

We follow the National Centre for Computing Education curriculum, which is carefully planned to build pupils’ knowledge and skills progressively across the year groups. Our curriculum develops computer science, information technology and digital literacy.

Pupils learn how computers and networks work, develop their programming skills and use a range of digital tools purposefully.

Learning with Chromebooks

Our pupils use Google Chromebooks regularly, giving them secure and practical experience of technology in everyday learning. They learn to log on independently, organise and save their work, collaborate appropriately and select the most suitable tools for a task.

Using Google Workspace supports pupils to create, edit and share work confidently, while building the digital skills they will need as they move on to secondary school and beyond.

Computing Across the Curriculum

Computing is taught through discrete, timetabled lessons so that pupils can develop their knowledge in a structured way. These skills are then applied across the wider curriculum through researching a topic, presenting learning, collecting data, creating digital media and working collaboratively.

We want pupils to see technology as a useful tool for learning, creativity and communication, while understanding the importance of making safe and thoughtful choices online.

What We Want for Our Pupils
  • Become confident, capable and curious users of technology.
  • Use digital tools safely and responsibly.
  • Solve problems through logical thinking and programming.
  • Use technology creatively to communicate and share ideas.
