PE and Sport Premium

Physical Education and Sports Premium at The Willows

 Sports Leader: Hashim Khan

Total fund allocated for 2025/2026: £16,950

Background

The Government provides the Primary PE and Sport Premium to all eligible primary schools to improve the quality of Physical Education, Physical Activity and School Sport (PESSPA). The funding is intended to make additional and sustainable improvements to the PE, physical activity and sporting opportunities available to all pupils, ensuring that benefits continue beyond the funding period.

Schools are expected to use the funding strategically to:

  • develop or enhance the PE, physical activity and sporting opportunities already available;
  • build the confidence, knowledge and skills of teachers and staff to deliver high-quality Physical Education;
  • create sustainable improvements that will benefit both current and future pupils; and
  • support the development of pupils' physical literacy, enabling them to become confident, competent and motivated to participate in lifelong physical activity.

The Department for Education expects schools to publish an annual report detailing how the funding has been spent, the impact on pupils' outcomes, and how improvements will be sustained.

The Primary PE and Sport Premium is intended to support improvement across the following key indicators:

  • The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity, promoting healthy, active lifestyles. The UK Chief Medical Officers' Physical Activity Guidelines (2019) recommend that children and young people aged 5–18 years accumulate an average of at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day, with schools playing a key role in enabling pupils to achieve at least 30 minutes of this during the school day.
  • The profile of Physical Education, physical activity and sport is being raised across the school as a driver for whole-school improvement, supporting pupils' physical, social, emotional and cognitive development.
  • Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in delivering high-quality Physical Education.
  • A broader and more inclusive range of sports, physical activities and movement experiences are offered to all pupils, helping to develop physical literacy and encourage lifelong participation in physical activity.
  • Increased participation in competitive sport and wider sporting opportunities, ensuring that all pupils have opportunities to experience challenge, teamwork, leadership and personal achievement.

The Vision

At The Willows, we believe that every child should develop the knowledge, skills, confidence, and motivation to lead a healthy, active lifestyle. Through high-quality Physical Education, physical activity, and sport, we aim to develop physically literate pupils who value and enjoy movement and have the competence and confidence to participate in a wide range of physical activities throughout their lives.

We are committed to nurturing the whole child by promoting physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development through positive movement experiences. We encourage children to embrace challenge, demonstrate resilience, work collaboratively, and apply our school and British values in all aspects of school life. Our vision is for every child to grow up within our school community with a healthy body, a healthy mind, and a lifelong appreciation of the benefits of being physically active.

Our Objective

Our objective is to achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of Physical Education, physical activity, and school sport, ensuring that every pupil has the opportunity to develop physical literacy and experience success in movement.

This will be achieved by continuing to improve against the following key indicators:

  • The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity, promoting healthy, active lifestyles and developing the motivation and confidence to be active for life.
  • Raising the profile of Physical Education and sport across the school as a driver for whole-school improvement, supporting pupils' physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
  • Increasing the confidence, knowledge, and skills of all staff in delivering high-quality Physical Education that develops pupils' physical competence and understanding.
  • Providing a broad, balanced, and inclusive range of sports, physical activities, and movement experiences that enable every child to develop physical literacy and discover activities they enjoy.
  • Increasing participation in competitive sport and festivals, enabling pupils to apply their skills, demonstrate teamwork, resilience, respect, and sportsmanship, and experience appropriate levels of challenge and success.
