Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) including Relationships and Health Education (RSE)

Jigsaw PSHE

What is Jigsaw PSHE?

At The Willows, we use the PSHE scheme of work from Jigsaw. This offers a comprehensive programme for Primary PSHE including statutory Relationships and Health Education, in a spiral, progressive and fully planned scheme of work, giving children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others.

With strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, Jigsaw properly equips us to deliver engaging and relevant PSHE sessions within a whole-school approach. Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration and focus.

Further information as well as activities for the home can be found here: https://jigsawpshe.online/

The school policy for PSHE and RSE can be found on our website under ‘Key Information’ then ‘Policies’.

PSHE Impact Statement

At The Willows, our PSHE/RSE curriculum enables children to be equipped with knowledge and understanding of British Values, real-life scenarios, the wider world issues, their mental health and supporting others. We want our children to leave school as independent, healthy and responsible members of our society. Our children will understand the impact of assessing a situation, making good choices and the impact the wrong choice can have on them and others.

Through our rights respecting approach, our PSHE curriculum is designed to give children the tools and strategies they need to support them into adulthood. We believe that by focusing on healthy relationships, self-esteem and awareness, PSHE should support our children with any changes or obstacles in their lives. Whether it be a new family member, body changes, separation or bereavement. PSHE is progressive in the way the skills are developed through age and stage appropriate situations. We understand our children develop emotionally and physically at their own pace and support this through differentiation, inclusion and assessment for learning.

PSHE is a weekly, consistent lesson that is delivered with confidence through the Jigsaw Scheme. The progression of the scheme, vocabulary and strategies are built upon and developed each year. The scheme's content allows a consistent and accurate approach and is RSE compliant.

The experiences our children receive from marking national and local awareness weeks and charities, furthers their understanding of the skills developed in PSHE.
