International Primary Curriculum
As a school, alongside our rich English and Maths curriculum we use the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) to enhance our curriculum. English is taught discretely and also through linked work as part of the IPC theme. We find this enhances and secures key literacy skills in a range of contexts and experiences. Maths mastery and greater depth is taught in Years 1-3 and from Years 4-6, we follow the National Curriculum and where possible through the IPC.
What is IPC?
IPC is an internationally-minded, thematic, cross-curricular and rigorous teaching structure used in over 85 countries. The IPC learning focuses on a broad balance of Knowledge, Skills and Understanding through linked learning opportunities. It nurtures a love of learning and encourages the necessary key skills and personal qualities that our children will need as they move on to secondary school and the world of work.
IPC is effective in enabling pupils to apply skills and knowledge acquired in English, Maths, Science as well as their own personal experiences in a purposeful and concrete way. The school has linked all topic areas to the key skills children should learn in History, Geography, DT and Art. Each topic is focussed on broadening childrens minds and perspectives to help them engage in their wider community.
